Origins
On April 13th, 2001, in Modesto, California, Serenity Nicole Destiny, also known as Destin, would be born. She was born an only child to Sierra Destiny and David Destiny. Destin grew up relatively poor, having to help with bills at 14 by working after high school every day. Even so, in an interview with Peoples Magazine, she could recall the good times. Destin stated that “the best part of those days was coming home from work and listening to music,” in the little free time that she had. She would listen to artists like Rihanna and Alessia Cara, who became some of her biggest musical inspirations and helped her believe that there was space in the industry for her.

First Steps Forward
By 2017, Destin grew a small audience through covers on YouTube. Even though the audience was not huge, she was able to save money to make what was arguably the biggest step in her career. Without telling her parents, Destin took a 5-hour ride from Modesto to Los Angeles to pursue her dreams as an entertainer. She was finally in LA at 16 ready to make a career with no direction or guidance. She immediately started auditioning for label after label and would start learning how to make her own music. Destin would release her first single titled “HOME” on SoundCloud, reminiscing on what she left behind without knowing what she would soon gain. This single would quickly gain traction on the internet, further expanding her audience and draw attention from record labels.
The Return
Within days, Destin was signed under Warner Records, but soon after would disappear for over a year. Just as people were starting to forget her, she dropped her first studio album, “[0728].” Destin quickly became a top seller that year and recalls being “surprised and grateful” for the reaction she got from the public. She was constantly compared to artists like Ellie Banke and Pheobe Bridgers. “Nothing excites me more than making music for people, so I was sad when I had to take that step back for my own health and I’m so happy to be back,” Destin commented in an interview with iHeartRadio.

Legacy
On January 17th, 2019, Destin gave the world the song of the new generation, “Can’t love you” (feat. Sam Smith). This collab would earn Destin her first Billboard #1 chart, multiple VMA’s and her first ever Grammy for “Song of the Year”.
Destin has become a notable name in the industry from pure dedication and luck showing aspiring musicians that they too can succeed no matter their background. When asked for the best advice that she could give future artists, she said “Talent is natural and important, but it doesn’t guarantee you success nor respect. Your character, the person you chose to wake up and be every day, is what will ultimately determine how and what you can and will create!”
